The concept of usability is now widely used in the field of design, and a large body of research has concluded that usability is critical to the success of an interactive system or product. In recent years,as immersive technologies, represented by virtual reality and augmented reality, have matured and the cost of civilian use has decreased, design methods based on immersive technologies have also played an increasingly important role in design efforts to improve product usability.Semi-structured direct interviews with expert users of an existing product to uncover usability issues in the early stages of designing improvements to that product are still one of the most common methods used in usability improvement design work today and has been used in many design studies. There is no clear indication in the literature as to which method is better than this in terms of the value of the questions obtained when uncovering usability problems with existing products. In this study,a design method based on immersion technology is developed for a typical existing wireless industrial remote control in a miniaturized industrial console product.Using hierarchical analysis and fuzzy integrated evaluation, the method is validated in terms of the number and importance of usability issues uncovered by users and the level of usability issue-guided modelling of improved design solutions, compared to direct semi-structured interviews with expert users of the existing product. It was demonstrated that a higher value of usability questions could be obtained than by direct semi-structured interviews with expert users of the existing product. This study indicates the potential of a class of immersion-based methods to improve the current state of usability improvement design work. The combined value of the product design approach depends on the design benefits and the cost of use, determining the feasibility of using the approach in practice. The second study demonstrates that the immersive approach can be used to obtain higher-value usability problems while at the same time being more cost-effective and acceptable for designers to use. This study will further illustrate the need to apply the immersive technology-based design approach developed in this paper to practical work.Due to the importance of user safety in immersive systems, this article presents a needs analysis of the users of the immersive system to understand their valuable opinions on the security status of the system and to guide the construction of security measures for the system. The KANO model was used to collate the user requirements for the immersion system, discuss the extent to which the existing protection measures meet the user requirements, attempt to propose an improved solution based on this, and test the prototype of the improved solution to prove that the solution meets the user requirements better than the existing protection measures.A useful reference for protecting users in building similar immersive systems is provided.
