Resources Investigation And Characteristic Analysis Of Ancient And Famous Trees In Meiling National Forest Park,Jiangxi Province

The forest resources are rich in Jiangxi province and there are many kinds of ancient and famous trees.It has many values,such as ecological value,economic value,scientific research value,historical and cultural value,aesthetic landscape value and social value.There is positive significance to the construction of ecological civilization demonstration zones and the promotion of ecological culture in our province through resources investigation and protection of ancient and famous trees.In this paper,the resource investigation of ancient and famous trees was performed by the method of tally taking Meiling national forest park in Jiangxi province as investigation area.The data of obtained from investigation were used to analysis the species characteristics,distribution characteristics and growth characteristics of ancient and famous trees.These results will provide a preliminary basis for the protection of ancient and famous tree resources and follow-up resources,and the maintenance of ecological civilization and other natural science research.The results showed as follows:As an important component of forest germplasm resources,ancient and famous trees have extremely important historical,cultural,ecological,scientific research value and higher economic value.In this study,the ancient and famous trees resources in Meiling national forest park of Nanchang city were investigated through field survey and interview,digital photography and establishing electronic files on the basis of consulting historical data.Then the analysis in terms of the characteristics of species,structure,age and ownership of ancient and famous trees were performed.The results showed that: 1)There were 272 ancient and famous trees belonging to 28 species in 27 genera and 19 families.The dominant species were Cinnamomum camphora and Liquidambar formosana,which28.68% and 27.57% in the total number of ancient and famous trees,respectively.2)In terms of structural characteristic,Ginkgo biloba,Liquidambar formosana and Camptotheca acuminate ranked the top three in average tree height.G.biloba,Castanea henryi and C.camphora ranked the top three in average DBH.G.biloba,Pterocarya stenoptera and C.camphora ranked the top three in average crown width.3)In terms of tree age,there were 52,85 and 135 ancient and famous trees under first,second and third class which occupied 19.12%,31.25 and 49.63% in the total number of ancient and famous trees,respectively,showing a pyramid-type structure.4)96.69% of the ancient and famous trees belonged to state and collective ownership.These results will play an important role in the protection of ancient and famous trees resources and in the maintenance of ecological civilization and other natural science research in Meiling national forest park.The ancient and famous trees are precious heritage and forest germplasm resources left by nature and predecessors.In this study,the distribution characteristics of ancient and famous trees in Meiling national forest park were investigated by the method of tally.The results showed that: 1)ancient and famous trees mainly distributed in Luoting and Taiping,with good ecological environment(61.40%),and most of which were L.formosana and C.camphora.2)In terms of vertical distribution,the ancient and famous trees mainly concentrated below 200 m(68.38%).The number of ancient and famous trees decreased gradually with increasing of altitude above 200 m.3)In terms of habitat distribution,the ancient and famous trees mostly neared village and forest land(67.28%)than other places.4)In terms of topographic distribution,the ancient and famous trees distributed mostly in flat slope(37.5%),sunny slope(90.44%)and flat land(43.38%).5)In terms of cluster distribution,the ancient and famous trees were mainly scattered distribution(83.46%).These results will provide a reliable information basis for the subsequent conservation of ancient and famous trees resources in this region.As rare plant resources and important components of historical and cultural heritage,ancient and famous trees have extremely important role in ecological,economic,cultural and social values,and are the cream of forest resources.In this study,the growth characteristic of 272 ancient and famous trees in Meiling national forest park were estimated by analyzing self-growth conditions,human disturbance,management measures and disaster losses.The results showed that: 1)In terms of self-growth conditions,8.09%of the ancient and famous trees grown in danger,2.57% of those trees had a larger inclination.11.40% of those trees had broken tips or main branches,only 5.15% of those trees had serious hollow or decayed,and 4.41% of those trees bared the whole root zone.2)In terms of human disturbance,9.93% of them were trampled seriously,12.13% of them suffered from man-made mechanical injury,19.85% of them were bundled and 24.63%were stacked by junk,respectively.3)In terms of management measures,24.26% and50.73% of them did not equipped with nameplates or stone fences,respectively.4)In terms of disaster losses,there were 22 pests,9 diseases and 11 resident plants endangered the ancient and famous trees,especially in local tree species such as C.camphora and L.formosana.5)The health indexes of the ancient and famous trees were beyond 3 through the evaluation of 14 indicators,indicating that the growth of the ancient and famous trees in Meiling national forest park was normal.These results will provide important guidance for the management and protection of the ancient and famous trees in Meiling national forest park.
