ObjectiveTo observe the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine combined with tea tree oi l in external treatment of demodex blepharitis(damp-heat syndrome),evaluate its effectiveness, and explore the clinical promotion value of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in the treatment of demodex blepharitis.MethodsAccording to the exclusion criteria and inclusion criteria,86 patients(124 eyes in total)who were admitted to the ophthalmology clinic of Guang Dong Second Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from November 2018 to January 2020 and diagnosed as demodex blepharitis were selected. The included patients were randomly divided into control group and experimental group, and 43 patients were included in both control group and experimental group. Both the experimental group and the control group were given basic treatment, including:cleaning both eyes with normal saline, eye drops with levofloxacin, and taking traditional Chinese medicine decoction based on syndrome differentiation.Experimental group:basic treatment, tea tree oil eye application(1 time/day),Chinese medicine eye fumigation(1 time/day),Control group:basic treatment, tea tree oil eye application(1 time/day),Both groups were treated for one month. Before and after treatment, the tear film break-up time(BUT),eyelid margin, ocular surface disease index(OSDI),demodex count and other observation indicators were evaluated. The above results were recorded and processed and analyzed by SPSS 23.0 statistical software.Results(1)Comparison of basic data and observation indexes before treatment:gender, age, tear film break-up time(BUT),number of follicle mites, palpebral signs, corneal fluorescence staining(FL),ocular surface disease index(OSDI)and TCM symptom score of the two groups showed no statistical difference, indicating comparability(P>0.05).(2)After treatment, the observation indexes were compared:tear film break-up time(BUT),the number of demodex mites, blepharoplasty signs, corneal fluorescence staining(FL),ocular surface disease index(OSDI),and TCM symptom score in the two groups, all of which were significantly improved compared with those before treatment(P<0.01).(3)After treatment, the experimental group was significantly better than the control group in terms of tear break-up time, blepharoplasty signs and TCM symptom score(P<0.01).(4)After treatment, there was no significant difference in corneal fluorescence staining(FL)score, number of demodex mites and ocular surface disease index(OSDI)score between the two groups(P>0.05).(5)After treatment,no serious adverse reactions occurred in the experimental group and the control group, and the drugs and treatment methods used in the two groups were safe and effective.(6)After treatment, the total effective rate of the control group was 78.05%,and that of the experimental group was 95.12%.The total effective rate of the experimental group was significantly different from that of the control group(p<0.05).ConclusionTraditional Chinese medicine eye fumigation combined with tea tree oil eye application can effectively prolong tear film break-up time(BUT)and reduce the number of demodex mites in the treatment of demodex blepharitis(damp-heat syndrome),and significantly improve the corneal fluorescence staining(FL),eyelid signs, eye surface disease index score and symptoms of traditional Chinese medicine. The method of eye fumigation of traditional Chinese medicine combined with eye patch of tea tree oil can improve the subjective discomfort such as redness, eye itch, eye pain, foreign body sensation and so on in patients with Demodex blepharitis, especially in improving the symptoms of traditional Chinese medicine, eyelid signs and prolonging the tear film break-up time, and improve the efficacy of using tea tree essential oil alone. It can be used as an effective clinical treatment for demodex blepharitis(damp-heat syndrome)and deserves further research and attention. |
