The first chapter reviewed chemical constituents from the Sarcandra genus(Chloranthaceae)and their bioactivities that reported in literature during the period from 1987 to 2020.A total of 235 molecules and their bioactive activities,such as anti-inflammatory,antimalarial,anticancer,antimicrobial,antiviral activities and so on,were systematically summarized.With the aim to further investigate chemical constituents of Sarcandra species and their biological activities,the second chapter described the phytochemical investigation on the chemical constituents of S.glabra.The thin layer chromatography(TLC),normal and reverse phase silica gel,Sephadex LH-20,and semi-preparative high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)were chosen to isolated and purified the chemical components,whereas the physical and chemical properties of these isolates as well as modern spectral analysis techniques,such as the one dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance(1D-NMR),the two dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance(2D-NMR),mass spectrum(MS),and ultra-violet(UV)were used for structural establishment.A total of 17 compounds,including four sesquiterpenes(1-4),nine lindenane-sesquiterpene dimers(5-13),three lignans(14-16),and one coumarin(17)were obtained from the roots of S.glabra.Among them,compounds 5 and 11 were new compounds,while 2,6,7,and 14-16 were isolated from this species for the first time.The third chapter depicted the systematically studies of chemical constituents of the whole plants of S.hainanensis,which led to the isolation of 27 known compounds including 12 sesquiterpenes(1-12),one coumarins(13),four lignans(14-17),four flavonoids(18-21),one triterpene(22),two benzoic acids(23-24),two phenylpropanoids(25-26),and one disaccharide(27).Among them,compounds 1-18and 21-27 were isolated from this specie for the first time.Bioactivity assays revealed that compounds 5,18,21,and 26 showed good NO production inhibitory rates at a concentration of 50.0 μM but exhibited high cytotoxicity,meanwhile compounds 24 displayed certain inhibitory effects on the NO production induced by LPS in RAW264.7 macrophages with less cytotoxicity.
