Objective:To evaluate whether the family rehabilitation exercise can reduce the recurrence of intractable Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo(BPPV).Methods:Combined with medical history, the modified Epley method was used as a family rehabilitation exercise method for all patients diagnosed as posterior semicircular canal intractable BPPV.Family rehabilitation exercise was performed in all patients with horizontal semicircular canal intractable BPPV diagnosed by modified Gufoni method.Patients do family rehabilitation exercise once a week for a period of one year. The patients were randomly divided into two groups. The first group(control group)was composed of 78 patients without BPPV family rehabilitation exercise, while the second group(experimental group)was composed of 80 patients with family rehabilitation exercise. All patients(control group and experimental group)were followed up every month for one year.Recurrence rate of intractable BPPV in 78 cases of control group as follow. Results:There were 18 cases in the first month(23.1%),12 cases(15.4%)in the second month,13 cases(16.7%)in the third month,9 cases(11.5%)in the 4th month,13 cases(16.7%)in the 5th month,23 cases(29.5%)in the 6th month,25 cases(32.1%)in the 7th month,25 cases(32.1%)in the 8th month,14 cases(17.9%)in the 9th month,8 cases(10.3%)in the 10th month,12 cases(15.4%)in the 11th month, and 8 cases(10.3%)in the 12th month.Recurrence rate of intractable BPPV in 80 cases of experimental group as follow; There were 8 cases(10.0%)in the first month,2 cases(2.5%)in the second month,2 cases(2.5%)in the 3rd month,3 cases(3.8%)in the 4th month,5 cases(6.3%)in the 5th month,9 cases(11.3%)in the 6th month,10 cases(12.5%)in the 7th month,7 cases(8.8%)in the 8th month,7 cases(8.8%)in the 9th month,4 cases(5.0%)in the 10th month,2 cases(2.5%)in the 11th month, and 3 cases(3.8%)in the 12th month。There was a statistically significant difference in the recurrence rate of follow-up in the first year between the control group and the experimental group. Conclusion:Regularly family rehabilitation exercise can reduce the recurrence of intractable BPPV.Family rehabilitation exercise for patients with intractable BPPV is an effective means to prevent recurrence of intractable BPPV.
