| Objective: By analyzing the performance and passing rate of the practical skills examination and comprehensive theory examination of candidates participating in the public health physician category of the national physician qualification examination in Jilin Province in 2020 and 2021,the factors influencing the performance of the practical skills examination for physician qualification will be investigated. This study aims to provide data support for the public health-related professions in Jilin Province to address the problems in teaching and improve teaching programmers effectively,to further improve the regularization, standardization and informatization of practical skills examinations in public health categories,to provide clues for reforming the construction of the public health system in Jilin Province under the background of COVID-19 epidemic. Methods: With authorization and access to the Changchun Medical Examination Centre, the registration data and examination results of the candidates who participated in the public health physician category of the national qualifying examination in Jilin Province in 2020 and 2021 were obtained, and relevant statistical analyses were carried out by using SPSS 24.0 statistical software. The continuous variables of normal distribution were expressed as mean ± standard deviation, and the categorical variables were expressed as frequency and composition ratio.Skill pass rate, theory pass rate and total pass rate were calculated respectively. The χ2 test was applied to compare between groups for pass rate, and t-test or ANOVA was applied to compare between groups for skill test scores. The difference was considered as statistically significant at P < 0.05.Results: 1.The candidates who participated for the Public Health category in 2020 and 2021 were mainly from Changchun and Jilin, which accounted for 59.7% and 65.3% respectively. The average percentage of female candidates participated in both years was 79.6%.2.The pass rates for the practical skills exams in 2020 and 2021 were 78.3% and 70.7% for practicing physicians and 66.1% and 48.7% for assistant physicians, respectively. The average performance of practicing physician candidates was higher than that of assistant physicians(P <0.01).The difference in passing rates for the practice skills exam between practicing physicians and practicing physician assistants in 2021 was statistically significant(χ2=7.06,P<0.01).In the comparison of different sociodemographic characteristics in the practical skills examination, the difference in average performance between candidates on probation and those in employment in the 2020 practitioner level was statistically significant(t=2.71,P<0.01).In the comparison of the pass rates of the three stations of the practical examinations for 2020 and 2021,the difference in pass rates between the second station in the practitioner level and the first station in the assistant practitioner level was statistically significant(P <0.05).3.The pass rates for the theory examinations were 37.9% and 28.8% for practicing physicians and 51.4% and 14.7% for assistant physicians in 2020 and 2021,respectively.The difference in the pass rate of the theory examination between the two years was statistically significant(χ2=10.62,P <0.01).The difference in the passing rate of the theory examination between the two years was statistically significant(P <0.05).The difference in the passing rate of the theory examination between candidates with different academic qualifications in 2021 was statistically significant(P =0.04).4.After combining the results of the practical skills and theory examinations, the total pass rates for practicing physicians in 2020 and 2021 were 29.6% and 23.2%,respectively.The difference in the pass rates between the two years was not statistically significant(χ2=2.75,P =0.10).The pass rates for practicing physician assistants in 2020 and 2021 were 33.9% and 9.3%,respectively.The difference in the pass rates between the two years of examination was statistically significant(χ2=9.81,P <0.01).In the comparison of the different sociodemographic characteristics, the pass rates for the Practitioner Level Examination for both years were statistically significant(P <0.05) for candidates in employment and those on probation. The difference in pass rates between candidates of different age groups in Practitioner Level Examination for 2020 was statistically significant(P <0.01).Conclusions: 1.Compared with the eastern region, the candidates for the Public Health Practitioner category in Jilin Province were relatively few in number, with a predominantly female candidate structure, and the pass rate is low.2.There was no significant variation in practice skills, medical theory and total pass rates at the practitioner level in 2020 and 2021,with the main influencing factors being candidates’ age, qualifications and incumbency. The main influencing factors for the 2021 practice skills, medical theory and total pass rates at the practitioner assistant level were lower than in 2020,with the main influencing factor being in employment. The passing rate of public health case analysis examinations in the second station of the examination for practicing assistant physicians and practicing physicians was the lowest in the analysis of the passing rate of the results of each station of the practical skills examination, which became the main factor affecting the passing of the practical skills examination.3.While Jilin Province should enhance training in public health skills for probationary and new recruits, universities should improve their programmers, strengthen theoretical teaching, emphasize the integration of public health knowledge with clinical knowledge, and train complex talents in public health. |
