The strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education indicates the importance of education.Nearly every country attaches great importance to education.The subjects of education includes two parts:students and teachers.As a matter of fact,we usually pay great attention to the development of students and the stress students suffer from,but we seldom care about the situation of teachers.We do not know teachers are under great stress,too.Teachers are getting more and more tired of their jobs and giving up teaching gradually because of teacher burnout.Nowadays,English becomes more and more important and it is an essential part in important exams,including college entrance examination.English is a foreign language and it increases difficulty for Chinese students,what is more,English in senior high school is harder than junior high school,which increases the pressure of English teachers in senior high school.Teacher burnout harms to society,teachers themselves,students and schools,so we should pay attention to the problem.Previous researchers have conducted a lot of studies on burnout and achieved a lot,but the number of studies on English teachers in senior high school is less.The conclusions on teacher burnout in senior high school may be different due to various factors,such as:regions,cultural environment,and the development of the country,and so on.The subjects of this paper are the teachers in senior high school in Fujian Province.The study adopts qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to explore the following three questions:(1)What is the current burnout situation of senior high school teachers?(2)What causes the teacher burnout of the senior high school teachers?(3)How to alleviate the burnout level of senior high school teachers?The data collected were analyzed with SPSS 13.0 and the findings are as follows:(1)The burnout level of senior high school teachers is in the upper level which means a little serious,especially in the dimension of emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment;(2)Through interview,the author found that there are generally four reasons causing this situation,which include:society(the high expectation,low salary and the evaluation system),school(the management system and evaluation system),the job(the specific characteristic of teachers and students)and the teachers themselves(the adaptive capacity,the ability to deal with problems and personality).(3)The author put forward some suggestions according to the reasons.The society should increase the salary of teachers and establish moderate expectation and evaluation system;schools should give more freedom to teachers and perfect the evaluation system;Teachers should cultivate positive mental attitude and improve the ability to adapt and deal with problems. |
