| With the development of computer science in the second half of the 20th century,human society has been gradually informationized,and all disciplines have developed new research directions with information technology as the new carrier.At the same time,the application of system science,including system theory,control theory and information theory,have been widely transferred from natural science and engineering technology to the humanities and social sciences.Since the end of the 20th century,the design discipline has been applying computer technology to explore new research fields,and is constantly updating design concept and its carrier.Although the efficiency and quality of design process has been greatly improved from the early computer-aided design to the current parametric design,the appropriation of technologies still remains noisy,and lacking of theoretical system construction.Therefore,this study takes generative art as a bridge between technology and design,and focuses on the research of generative art theory,in order to perfect its theoretical system mainly from four dimensions: its development,characteristics,intervention in design and future prospect.The main content includes four parts.Firstly,the study starts from the concept of "generative" to discuss its characteristics in computer science,art and design,then sorts out its development as a comprehensive creative method.Secondly,based on complexity theory,the study analyzes the technical and conceptual qualities of generative system,thus concluding generative art as a non-linear,complex,adaptable and emergence process,and summarizing its creative strategy and practical approach.Thirdly,the study links generative system and design,to discuss the development and application of generative design.Focusing on the features of informationized platform,bionic structure and sustainable material in generative design,the inherent relationship between 20th century scientific theories and contemporary design can be further explored.Finally,bytracing back the history of artificial intelligence and algorithmic generative aesthetics,the study discusses the innovation that design will face in the coming era of strong artificial intelligence.From the analysis of author’s identity,the controversy and contradiction in intelligent design will also be discussed.The discussion of generative art under the complexity paradigm is useful to sort out how the new paradigm of contemporary design is constructed by the 20th century science theory and computer technology.It also helps to comprehend the profound impact of technology on human design practice from an overall and rational perspective.Based on this discussion,the study attempts to enrich the theoretical system of generative art,and provide theoretical and methodological references for related researches in the future evolution process where design is growing cyber and smart. |
