Abstract/Summary:
The materials for this translation practice come from the Book The New Silk Road:the Present and Future of the World written by Peter Frankopan,a scholar from Oxford University.Focusing on the changes taking place in the world today, the book explores the development and prosperity of Eastern countries in recent years and how China’s commercial and political influence has changed the way the world works. The author chooses the first chapter of the work to carry out translation practice,on the basis of which the author has finished the translation practice report. As a representative of the second generation of German functionalist school,Christian Nord comes up with a translation-oriented text analysis model. She believes that this model can help the translator analyze features and functions of source text, and then appropriately select translation strategies and methods to achieve the expected function of the target text.Under the guidance of the text analysis model, the author firstly makes a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the translation materials from the two dimensions of intratextual and extratextual factors,so as to better understand the text function and language features of source text.In accordance with the translation principle of “function plus loyalty”,and the two different translation strategies of documentary translation and instrumental translation summarized by Nord, the author explores translation methods at three levels of lexis, sentence and text by case study. In this translation practice, the translation methods of amplification, omission, annotation and conversion are used at the lexical level, and the methods of division, linear translation, reorganization, and passive voice sentence to active sentence are used at the syntactic level. At the textual level, the cohesion of the text, the retention of characteristics of the original text and the handling of cultural difference are emphasized. These translation methods can better convey the original information and make it easy to read and understand.
