This translation practice includes three parts: the source text, the translation version and the translation report. The source text is adopted from the fourth chapter of Multimodal Pragmatics and Translation: A New Model for Source Text Analysis, and it describes a new analytical form to the multimodal text from three dimensions. The translation practice selects cohesion theory raised by Halliday & Hasan as the theoretical basis, and analyzes the reference device in source text and translation version. The translation report consists of five parts: introduction, translation process, reference device in cohesion theory, application of the reference in translation and conclusion. The first part contains the introduction of the source text, the reasons of choosing the text and the significance of the translation project. The second part describes the whole translation process from three stages: pre-translation preparation,while-translation and post-translation proofreading. In the third part, the reference device is briefly introduced to lay a theoretical basis for the following parts. The fourth part elaborates how the translator deals with the reference devices of the source text with examples and explanations. The fifth part contains conclusion and enlightenment. This project has enlightened the translator in two aspects.Firstly, this report uses the reference device to solve the cohesive problems in the translation process, expanding the application of the theory in translation on monograph;secondly, the source text is a monograph on multimodal theory, which is helpful to introduce foreign literature and promote the development of multimodal text translation in China.
