English curriculum in senior high schools has an important educational function which aims to develop students’ English subject core competencies,such as language competence,cultural character,thinking quality and learning ability,and takes high moral values establishment and people cultivation as the fundamental task.English reading teaching plays a pivotal role in cultivating students’ English subject core competencies.Teachers’ questioning is a more necessary means to help teachers refine students’ knowledge,stimulate their thinking and guide their activities.Therefore,the status of teachers’ questioning in English reading teaching class in senior high schools cannot be shaken in the implementation of English subject core competencies.In this study,five national English reading high-quality lessons’ videos and instructional design texts in 2018 are selected as the research subjects by using the method of classroom observation and text analysis and try to answer the following questions:(1)What are the current situation and main problems of teachers’ questioning in English reading teaching class based on English subject core competencies in senior high schools?(2)What are the effective solutions to the problems which exist in the teachers’ questioning in English reading teaching class based on English subject core competencies in senior high schools?Through statistical analysis of the text data and careful classroom observation,it is found that the current situation of teachers’ questioning in English reading teaching class in senior high schools based on English subject core competencies is unsatisfactory,mainly because teachers’ questioning focuses on the implementation of language ability,the cultivation of cultural character and practical learning ability is obviously weakened.Moreover,the difficulty gradient of questioning is small,and the problem is not situated in the scenario.In the classroom observation,the author also finds that some of the teachers’ questioning means a great deal in training students’ core competencies,and the effective way to ask questions is obtained after comparison.
