At present,Core Competencies,research of which keeps hotter and hotter,are the most noticeable foci in the field of the general education.In order to carry out the proposal put forward by the Ministry of Education that Core Competencies should be implemented into the subject teaching,the English discipline also has its Core Competencies,namely linguistic competence,cultural disposition,thinking quality and learning abilities.Furthermore,English reading teaching plays a crucial role in the cultivation of English Subject Core Competencies,and classroom questioning is the major force to promote the classroom teaching.Hence,classroom questioning in reading in junior high school English class has an irreplaceable position in the implementation of English Subject Core Competencies.Based on the relevant theories of English Subject Core Competencies and educational psychology,we apply class observations,case study and videoing English teaching in class of four ordinary teachers in a junior high school in Huangshi and transcribe teacher questions.Then,with observation scales based on the four elements of English Subject Core Competencies,teacher classroom questionings are analyzed in terms of situation,dimension and difficulty.It is found that classroom questioning about cultivating English Subject Core Competencies in reading in junior high school is not satisfactory,regarding the following problems:(1)The dimension of questioning about developing the linguistic competence is focused more on the input and processing of language,and the difficulty level of questioning is low;(2)Classroom questioning obviously weakens the cultivation of cultural backgrounds;(3)The thinking level of classroom questioning about the cultivation of the thinking quality is low,so is the difficulty level;(4)Classroom questioning about cultivating learning abilities does not pay attention to training students' actual learning abilities;(5)The questioning situations are limited;(6)Classroom questioning is more inclined to develop students' linguistic competence but less to other elements of English Subject Core Competencies.In order to achieve the cultivation of English Subject Core Competencies comprehensively in reading in junior high school,it is necessary to make the following changes in teacher classroom questioning:(1)to strengthen the students' language output abilities and enhance the comprehensive level of the linguistic difficulty in classroom questioning;(2)to focus more on the deep cultural connotations of the text and emphasize the internalization and transmission of cultural knowledge;(3)to increase the frequency of questions about the ability of high level thinking and strengthen the cultivation of thinking in flexibility;(4)on the basis of questions,to expand learning channels and encourage students to carry out cooperative learning;(5)to meticulously create actual life-oriented questioning situations for students.
