The dragon is a symbol of Chinese culture, and the Chinese people have had the idea of dragon worship since ancient times. The southern peoples, represented by the Buyi, also have the concept of the dragon, and the phenomenon of dragon culture abounds in their folk customs and folk literature.Through the translation and collation of the story of the Buyi dragon in the Mo Sutra and the examination of the frescoes of Buyi statues,we found that the dragon in the Buyi tribe is an aquatic animal with a divine nature, whose archetypes include snakes, large fish, crocodiles, etc. The dragon plays an important role in the folklore of the Buyi people, and during the long period of their life and production, the Buyi people have formed a large amount of folklore centered on the dragon. This paper uses dragon stories from the folklore of the Buyi people in Guizhou Province as the object of study, and firstly introduces the cultural context in which the dragon stories of the region have been passed down, citing the livelihood of the Buyi people and their oral narrative traditions to provide a contemporary context for the study of dragon stories.Subsequently, the main contents of the dragon stories collected and collated were summarized into "the story of the dragon god with divinity" and "the story of the dragon king and the dragon girl with human nature" according to the degree of divinity of the dragon in the stories, the former is closely related to the scriptures and rituals, while the latter is mostly passed down to the people. Then, through typology, the dragon story structure of the region and its different texts were combed, the structure of each story was drawn, and the five types of dragon stories in the region and their core plot were finally identified. Then, based on the plot of the story type, the core unchanging and variable parent questions of the story type are identified, and the combination of these parent questions is understood. The process of constructing this type of story is then discussed, analyzing the role of Moslem beliefs, ecological concepts, and ethnic values in the formation of this type of story. Finally, the impact of cultural interactions on the evolution of the story of the Boi dragon. From the point of view of the ideas and values reflected in the dragon story, the story of the Buyi dragon incorporates the moral and immortal ideas of the Han people, while the plot structure and characters of the story are drawn from Buddhist culture and the Naga story. At the same time, the Buyi people selectively borrowed and created the above-mentioned ethnic cultures, and incorporated the cultural symbols of their own thinking habits, natural environment, living customs and local customs into the dragon story, giving it the characteristics of Buyi culture.
