Classroom error correction is an important way of communication between students and teachers.For students,classroom error correction help students obtain the correct language.For teachers,classroom error correction is not only an integral part of teachers classroom teaching behaviors,but also a way to understand the effectiveness of teaching.Therefore,effective classroom error corrections are particularly important for teachers’ teaching and students’ learning.This study intends to compare the similarities and differences between the novice teachers and the expert teachers in five dimensions,such as,Whether to correct or not,When to correct,Which errors should be corrected,How to correct,Who to correct,This study employs multi-cases research methods,four English teachers from a high school were selected as research participants.With the instruments of classroom observation,teacher’s interview and students’ questionnaire,data was collected and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively.The study shows the following results:(1)In terms of the frequency of classroom correction,expert teachers have rich experience and a better overall mastery of different kinds of errors than novice teachers,thus the classroom correction frequency is higher than that of the novice teachers.(2)In the aspect of the timing of classroom correction,the expert teachers’ selection of the timing is more flexible and proper than novice teachers.(3)In terms of the types of classroom correction,expert teachers pay more attention to expression errors.(4)In terms of the classroom correction methods,the expert teachers’ correction methods are more balanced and diversified,while the novice teacher’s correction methods are single and mechanical.(5)In terms of the classroom correction subject and strategy,expert teachers’ pay more attention to student autonomy,and choose more students’ own error correction and peer error correction.This research will guide the classroom error correction of front-line English teachers,especially novice teachers,and make teachers realize the importance ofclassroom error correction.At the same time,the study puts forward relevant suggestions for classroom error correction.
