In the representation of conceptual metaphor, spatial metaphor is the most common representation way for us to understand and understand abstract concepts.Spatial metaphor is to connect the spatial concepts accumulated in our cognitive structure with the abstract concepts so that the abstract concepts can be visualized in the cognitive process. Each of us is in a different spatial environment all the time, and we are in contact with various dimensions of space every day.If we can represent the abstract concept with the concrete concept we are familiar with,we can interpret and express the difficult abstract concept. From the perspective of embodied cognition, our knowledge and experience of spatial generalization will directly affect how we represent abstract concepts.Factors such as the structure of each of us and the gravity of the earth affect our understanding of the spatial dimension and thus determine the representation of the abstract universe.Recent linguistic studies have shown that there are a lot of expressions related to spatial dimension in human language, such as combining abstract concepts such as emotion, power and morality with spatial concepts. As an abstract concept, whether ability is also metaphorical with spatial dimension? This study refers to the classic Stroop paradigm commonly used in conceptual metaphor research, and uses the selected ability vocabulary as experimental materials. The research ideas of the three experiments are the same, and the experimental design is a 2x2 factor, that is,2(capacity concept: high or low)* 2(spatial dimension: size or up and down or left and right)two factors. The experimental design in the subjects.Based on the response time and the correct rate as dependent variables,we investigated whether the concept of ability has spatial metaphorical representation with size, top, bottom, left and right positions. In the three experiments in this study, the ability vocabulary was presented in different sizes,up and down positions, and left and right positions. Finally, the subjects were asked to judge the level of the ability vocabulary bypressing keys.If there is a connection between the ability vocabulary and the spatial dimension, then under the condition that the conditions are consistent(such as the high-power vocabulary is presented in large fonts),the correct rate of the subjects will be significantly higher than the non-consistent conditions(the high-power vocabulary is presented in small fonts),and The length of judgment will be significantly lower than the non-uniform conditions.Combining the research results of the three experiments, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)In the Chinese context, there is a spatial metaphor representation of the concept of ability and size.High ability is associated with large font, while low ability is associated with small font.(2)In the Chinese context, there is a spatial metaphorical representation of the concept of ability and the position of up and down(vertical),a connection between high ability and the position above, and a connection between low ability and the position below.(3)In the Chinese context, there is no spatial metaphorical representation of the concept of ability and the position of left and right(horizontal).
