A Study On Conceptual Metaphors In The Novel "The Heartbeat

Conceptual metaphor has attracted wide attention from scholars since it was proposed.It enables people to systematically discover the truth of human cognition from language,which is of great help to the development of linguistics and cognitive science.On the basis of previous studies,this paper systematically searches for the conceptual metaphor in the novel "Flipped" and analyzes the linguistic metaphor contained in it according to the mechanism of conceptual metaphor.It emphasizes the unity of subjectivity and objectivity in people’s experience.People’s common understanding of source domain and target domain provides the basis for the generation of conceptual metaphor,and also explores people’s cognitive process to a certain extent,indicating that the way people conceptualize the material world and experience needs the participation of metaphor.Conceptual metaphor plays an important role in the shaping of characters,the overall coherence and local coherence of articles,the development of plots and the prominence of themes in novels.Linguistic metaphors are not only the sources of conceptual metaphors,but also the proof of the reality of conceptual metaphors.It also provides the basis for the analyses of the mechanism of conceptual metaphors,the analyses of mappings and the reasoning they can do.
