| The release of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)marks the further innovation of China’s basic English education curriculum concept.The new curriculum standards emphasize that English teaching should pay attention to the educational value of English subject.English reading teaching plays a vital part in effectively promoting the cultivation of students’ subject core competencies.On the basis of this,this thesis analyzes the current situation and reasons of implementing core competencies in reading class of frontline English teachers in junior middle school,and discusses reading teaching strategies based on English subject core competencies.It is hoped that teachers can pay more attention to the cultivation of English subject core competencies,so as to improve the teaching quality and optimize reading teaching.This thesis selected five English teachers and 88 students from Class Six and Class Eight of Grade Eight as research participants.Before the experiment,a pre-questionnaire is conducted on students to understand the level of core competencies in the two classes.At the same time,the five teachers are interviewed to know their understanding of core competencies.In the process of experiment,this thesis modified the reading teaching strategies based on core competencies and applied them to the experimental class,while the controlled class was still taught with the conventional teaching methods.At the same time,by observing the reading class taught by the five teachers,the implementation of core competencies,the existing problems in teaching and the reasons can be found.After the experiment,the level of core competencies in the two classes is obtained from the post-questionnaire.After the analysis of pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire,as well as the observation records of the classroom during the experiment,this thesis analyzes the influence of English reading teaching under the guidance of English subject core competencies on students’ English reading learning and English subject core competencies.After sixteen weeks of comparative experiment,it is found that most junior middle school English teachers have little understanding of English subject core competencies.Although there is some theoretical understanding,it is not comprehensive and deep enough,and it is difficult for them to apply to English reading teaching practice.Through the comparison,the research found that the level of students’ English subject core competencies has been improved.The experiment has proven that reading instructional strategies based on English subject core competencies have a positive impact on students.At the same time,this thesis summarizes some implications for implementing core competencies in English reading teaching: first,strengthen teachers’ understanding of theoretical competencies;second,deeply analyze the teaching materials and fully consider the learning situation;third,focus on cultivating students’ core competencies;fourth,improve evaluation methods.At the same time,this thesis has a deeper understanding of English subject core competencies and English reading teaching strategies based on core competencies.The full implementation of the English subject core competencies in the actual classroom teaching is helpful to optimize the English teaching model,create a good English learning environment,improve the efficiency of English classroom teaching,implement the fundamental task of “moral cultivation”,so as to promote the all-round development of students. |
