Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties themes is a kind of zaju with unique status and value.The material selection of this kind of zaju has a large historical span,but the source of the literature is relatively concentrated,which accounts for a large proportion of the existing Yuan zaju.However,the previous research on the Yuan zaju of the Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties themes is not deep enough,so it is necessary to carry out in-depth research on this kind of Yuan zaju.The first part analyzes the main content and status of Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties themes.The contents of Yuan zaju of the Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes were divided into five categories: the struggle of loyalty and rape,state conflict,political struggle of characters,seeking for fame,ethics and morality,and others.Relatively speaking,there is a lack of official judgment zaju,but it can also be said to be rich in content.Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties themes is analyzed in the whole history of Yuan zaju to explore its status,mainly from two aspects: one is the existing Yuan zaju,the other is the visible items of Yuan zaju.The extant Yuan zaju is mainly seen from the anthologies of Yuan zaju of the Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty.There are nine kinds of Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes in Thirty Dramas Printed in Yuan Dynasty,twenty-eight kinds of zaju in The Maiwangguan Edition,accounting for about one fifth of the Yuan zaju,and eighteen kinds in Selected Yuan Zaju.It is difficult to accurately count the number of visible Yuan zaju,the number of zaju recorded by Zhu Quan’s Zaju Written by Qunying is 546.Among them,there are 101 types of Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes written by authors.The total number of Yuan zaju collected by Fu Xihua’s Total Number Yuan Zaju is 550,among which129 belong to Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties themes.From these two perspectives,it can be seen that the Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes were prosperous in the Yuan Dynasty.The second part is an in-depth study of the subject source of the Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes.From the source of the subject matter and the selection and use of the subject matter by the writers,we can see its characteristics of realism and fiction.It can be divided into four categories.One is to narrate history with drama,with a little modification.The creation of this kind of zaju respects the historical facts,and the stories are basically from historical books,with less fictional elements,just for the purpose of strengthening the expression.The second is to give priority to the real,more fiction.The main plot of this kind of zaju is based on historical facts.The characters,background,and most plots fit historical records,but some fictional characters have been added,some plots have been constructed,and there are more fictional points.Third,there is more emptiness and less reality in history.This kind of zaju is mainly fictional,but its central event is based on historical facts.Fourth,emptier and less real,history has nothing to do with it.This kind of zaju is also based on fiction,but the central events narrated in zaju have no historical basis,or even just borrow the name of famous person.The third part is to analyze the artistic characteristics of Yuan zaju of Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes.Based on the analysis of the material selection characteristics of this kind of Yuan zaju,it can be summarized into two points.The first is the selection of fragments,which refers to the selective selection of the content recorded in the history books for creation.This feature is also found in other themes.Second,most of the selected events are famous events and wonders.Then it analyzes the typological characters mainly created by zaju,and finds that most of the characters in Yuan zaju of the Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes have the same characteristics and constitute the typology to some extent.Finally,the language style is analyzed.The language style of Yuan zaju of the Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes is not single,but it is mainly tragic or heroic.The fourth part explores the influence of Yuan Zaju of Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties themes.Its influence on later literature is mainly concentrated in two aspects:opera and novel.There are many dramas in the Ming and Qing dynasties that have the same theme as the Yuan Zaju of Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes.These zaju or legends are deeply affected by the Yuan Zaju.It can be seen from the analysis of dramas of the same theme,such as Zhao Jun Chusai,Yuntai Ji and Jinsuo Ji.The novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties were also influenced by this kind ofzaju,among which Yu Shaoyu’s Biography of the Nations was the most influential one.This paper makes a multi-angle study of zaju of Pre-Qin and Han dynasties themes,each of which can find some relevant characteristics,which is helpful to deeply understand the significance and value of this kind of zaju.
