V.S.Naipaul is a British writer of Indian origin, and the spatial factor runs through his works.Naipaul’s novels cover a wide range, including Trinidad,Britain,India and other multi-national and multi-ethnic regions, showing the integration and conflict of different ethnic groups and cultures, and many spatial types with different characteristics appear in them. The space in the novel is not only a sign of geographic location, but also a place containing complex social relations and cultural connotations.Naipaul draws on traditional narrative media such as paintings and movies that are different from literary texts, draws on their narrative skills, highlights their spatial importance, and completes the construction of the novel’s spatial narrative. The construction of space narration in novels cannot be separated from the description of space images. The space and places with the characteristics of "imagery" contain different symbolic meanings and play an important role in the construction of novel narration. In short,in Naipaul’s novels, space not only assumes the function of the place where the story takes place, but also becomes the subject as an object to promote the development of the narrative process. The thesis consists of an introduction, body and conclusion. The body consists of six parts. The main content has four chapters. The first chapter combines Naipaul’s growth background and life experience to classify and expound the various types of spaces in Naipaul’s novels. Then it analyzes the painting and film narrative techniques used in the novel in detail, revealing the different effects these elements play on the construction of the novel space.Sort out and analyze the space images in the novel, reveal the metaphorical meanings of different types of space images, and discuss their different functions in space narration. Finally, from the novel theme and the construction of the third space,it elaborates the construction meaning of the space narration in Naipaul’s novels. In the first chapter, according to the different dimensions of narrative space, the author divides the spatial narrative forms and characteristics in Naipaul’s novels into three types: physical space, social space, and psychological space.Trinidad,India, and London are the three most important geographical spaces in Naipaul’s novels.Different spaces present different characteristics in the novels. The second chapter discusses the space image. The images in Naipaul’s novels are mainly divided into three categories: residence image, geographical environment image, and vehicle image.Analyze the functions of different spatial images in the narrative of the novel, expound the role of the images in shaping the character’s character and reflecting the changes in the relationship between the characters, revealing the metaphorical meaning of the image, and playing an important role in the construction of the spatial narrative.Chapter Three studies the use of multiple media in Naipaul’s novels and their spatial narrative strategies.Including the basic principles of color and composition in the art of painting,as well as techniques such as empty shots, scenes, long shots, and sectioning in film narratives. The use of multiple media adds visual effects such as novel texts from different angles, and constitutes the spatial characteristics of novels. The fourth chapter mainly summarizes the meaning of space narration in Naipaul’s novels. In terms of novel narration, unlike traditional novels, which pay attention to the time factor, what is prominent in the narration of Naipaul’s novels is the spatial factor, which makes space a special driving force for the novel. The movement of different spaces in the novel promotes the narrative process of the novel. The place of action, itself as an object, becomes the subject of the novel. This article will elaborate on the modernity experience in the spatial narration of Naipaul’s novels, revealing that based on his own experience,he not only digs out the root of the loss of the sense of belonging of the third world group, but also believes that the anxiety of identity leads them to adopt the "simulation" strategy.Treating the colonial culture, and trying to present in the "third space",the complex and contradictory cultural mixing state of the colony and the colonized, this ambiguous third space reveals the true relationship between the colony and the colonized, and points to the third of equal dialogue. The space provides guidance for groups caught in identity under the background of multiculturalism, and shows the humanistic care of his cosmopolitan.
