In the middle and late Ming Dynasty, the Taoist inner alchemy scholar Cheng Yining’ s Commentary on Nanhua Zhenjing is an academic monograph of Taoist that uses internal alchemy to explain Zhuangzi, based on the advanced thoughts of many thinkers, which connects the alchemy and the carefree spirit of Zhuangzi. In the process of interpreting the book,Cheng Yining took the entering and leaving the world as his starting point, and used the inner alchemy cultivation of Dan to explain why people are not free, how can they go to free, and the state they present after reaching the realm of free. His Commentary on Nanhua Zhenjing is a valuable research work of Taoist inner alchemy and studies of ZhuangziThe text consists of five chapters, with introduction before the first chapter, and conclusion after the last chapter. The introduction mainly explains the social and historical background of Cheng Yining’s Commentary on Nanhua Zhenjing and clarifies its research value. It also summarizes the current research on Cheng Yining’ s thoughts in the academic world, pointing out the current research deficiencies, and the main breakthrough points of this articleThe first chapter introduces Cheng Yining’s life and works.Starting from ancient documents,it sorts out and verifies Cheng Yining’ s era, hometown and regional culture, family history and cultural inheritance,so as to outline Cheng Yining’s life history.Next,I will briefly summarize the thoughts and styles of Cheng Yining’s Tao Shang Moral Treasures and Commentary on Nanhua Zhenjing.Starting with Cheng Yining’s writing intentions and his unique insights into the chapter structure and discriminating falsehoods in Commentary on Nanhua Zhenjing,he clearly presents his standpoint on Zhuangzi studies. From the perspectives of life theory, gongfu theory, and realm theory, the chapter two to chapter four respectively expounding Cheng’s thoughts of reaching Tao means carefree. From the perspective of life theory,Cheng Yining pointed out that creation gives birth to human beings, human beings come from the Tao,and they are all Taoistic when they are born, and all have the possibility of achieving the inner golden core and reaching the realm of carefree. But after human beings are born and developed, they will be seduced by knowledge and things, and they will be far away from the Tao,and the Tao will not be manifested,so they can’ t be free in this world.Since everyone has Taoism and has the foundation for attaining Taoism, immortal Tao is in one’s body. Therefore,as long as people give full play to the consciousness of the subject of life, imitate the Tao of heaven, and refine the golden core, they can be free. From the perspective of gongfu theory,Cheng Yining proposed that Zhuangzi was written exclusively for life and regarded life cultivation as the main way to gain freedom. In his opinion, only the Tao of golden core can guide the world to return to the innate from the acquired, and the side tricks are useless. For this reason,Cheng explored the form and spirit of Taoism, and came to the development of the concept of form and spirit of "beginning with form to store the spirit, then deifying form, and finally holding the form and spirit together",which lays the foundation for the development of the world’s life cultivation work. However,Cheng pointed out that there is a sequence of double cultivation of nature and life, and life comes first, then nature.Starting from the cultivation of fate,he matched Kunpeng, kidney and heart with lead and mercury, and looked for the true medicine of inner alchemy, that is,qi of former heaven. Then start the inner alchemy practice by taking ridges and filling out, entering the fire and retreating talisman. In addition,Cheng also believed that there is a difference between cultivation of nature and life, and only those who have nature can survive. The heart is not only the master of the body, but also the guest of the gods,so the cultivation of nature should nurture the mind.By abstaining from deliberateness and making the mind reach a state of emptiness and tranquility, you can "set your mind" and keep your ancestry, that is,guard your own soul.If the soul is fully protected, life can be forever,so death and life do not depend on the transformation of the body. And taking the divine transmission as an opportunity,so the person who regards death and life as one is a person who is truly good at health preservation. In this way, both body and sou are cultivated, the golden core is self-contained,and human can be free and easy. From the perspective of realm theory,Cheng Yining used Zhuangzi’s ideal personality such as sage, god, and genuine people to show the realm of freedom opened by the golden core.In Cheng’s view, although the three ideal personalities have different names, they can all be realized to the extreme realm. They are different from ordinary people who are attached to things, indulge in the world, and live and die. They are not minded about things,do nothing to govern, and are useless in the world. They are free from life and death, reverse creation, and make their spirits last forever. This kind of Taoist personality has nothing to worry about in the heart, experience yin and yang freely, feeling at ease everywhere. The fifth chapter elaborates on Cheng Yining’s multi-dimension use of Buddhism,Confucianism,Yi-ology and other thought resources in the process of interpreting Zhuangzi.Cheng Yining lived in the historical background of the confluence of the three religions, had an academic experience of transitioning from Confucianism to Taoism, and has a profound understanding of the principles of Yi images and Buddhism.Cheng regards "the Taoism and Buddhism reach the same goal by different routes" as the core of Zhuangzi, and wanted to serve the carefree view of in the process of reconciling the three religions and absorbing the strengths of others. Conclusion analyzes the value and influence of Cheng Yining’s Commentary on Nanhua Zhenjing. As an important scholar of inner alchemy in the Ming Dynasty,Cheng used the principles of alchemy and fate to comment on Zhuangzi, which injected vitality into the development of Zhuangzi and inner alchemy in the Ming Dynasty.Cheng’s interpretation of Tao with golden core and carefree with reaching Tao showed people the correct path to reach the realm of carefeee from a Taoist standpoint, and broadened the meaning of free in Zhuangzi. In addition, the Commentary on Nanhua Zhenjing has a profound influence on the reshaping of scholars’ personality and the choice of reading methods.
