Lu Zhenyu is a famous Marxist historian in China, and he has made pioneering contributions to the development of Marxist historiography in China. The study of Lu Zhenyu’s ideological history traces the inevitability of his move towards Marxism from the preset, and "rationalizes" the heterogeneous components that deviate from Marxism in his early words and deeds. This paper focuses on Lu Zhenyu’s prefaced academic thought, that is,his early transition from the study of Three-civilism to the academic thought of Marxist historiography.Lu Zhenyu was born in China’s ordinary inland countryside and grew up in China’s most common farming family. His early years were carefree, and he had no sense of the decline of his empire. From Wugang,Changsha to Beeping,he stepped from the edge into the center, free from the shackles of the small world, the future is full of infinite possibilities. With the dream of "industrial salvation"into Hunan University of Engineering, and once indulged in the ideal kingdom of an ananism, the tendency of reformism is the characteristic of its early thought.Three Principles was at the core of Lu Zhenyu’s early thought, which dominated his thought and practice before and after the Northern Expedition.Under the sound of the National Revolution, its military and political cadres joined the ranks of the Northern Expedition, and eventually withdrew from the army because of dissatisfaction with the Nanjing government. In order to build the Three Principles country,Lu Zhenyu,on the one hand, thinks about the international situation and seeks the way out of China’s diplomacy,on the other hand, cooperates with the village ruling faction and seeks the implementation of the politics of the whole people. His recognition and belief in the Three Principles reached the point of blindness, and at the same time he viewed Marxism and the Communist Party with a competitive attitude. In 1930,Lu Zhenyu changed from village rule to the discussion of the Eastern Revolution, and his thoughts had a clear trend of radicalization, and solving the problem from the whole world rather than gradually improving it became the key for him to think about China’s problems.Marxist conceptual terms appear in his words, but Three Principles still plays an influence. The nature of Chinese society and the rise of the debate on Chinese social history have made Marxism’s influence in China’s ideological and cultural circles expand, and Lu Zhenyu has been completely conquered by Marxism. He excitedly used Marxism as a theoretical tool to analyze Chinese society, the road and future of the Chinese revolution, and eventually became a colleague of the Communist Party of China. At the same time,he entered the field of history research from the debate of social history, and played a pioneering contribution to the creation of Chinese Marxist historiography.Three Principles and Marxism are the two most profound ideas affecting China in the twentieth century.Lu Zhenyu vividly shows the changes between the two in the way of individual life, which provides a vivid sample for understanding the evolution of Chinese political thought in the twentieth century.
