| “Tricks” is a short story collected in Runaway of Alice Munro,the 2013 Nobel Prize winner.It is a story about the heroine named Robin who tries to change her life but is tricked by fate and returns to her previous life.The story presents a normal life full of contingency and randomness,and the personality characteristics of Robin are also “deviant”,which coincides with the features of “schizophrenic” from the perspective of Deleuze and Guattari’s philosophy.Therefore,this study attempts to interpret the inner world of Robin from the perspective of schizoanalysis,explore the reasons of the tricks playing on Robin and the process of her self-redemption.This study analyzes Robin’s schizo process from four aspects: rhizome,body without organs,becoming and deterritorialization.And the study has found that Robin’s destiny is tricked not only by a series of rhizomatic coincidental events,but also by her empty body without organs.Her indifference to family,vanity and indulgence in love are the intrinsic factors accounting for her fate.After the tricks,she chooses to return to her family,continues to take care of her sister,and begins the process of self-redemption.Robin gradually realizes the backwardness of traditional conventions and the invisible oppression of male-centered society,so she resists them by rhizomatic “abnormal” behaviors.In her later years,she eliminates the negative mental organs and forms a full body without organs,devoting herself to caring for others.She establishes an equal relationship with men by becoming-women and deterritorializes the traditional marriage convention as a single female.Robin faces the tricks of destiny with a positive attitude,never complaining but contributing to others through personal efforts,and achieves independence in spirit and economy. |
