Collected Explanations Of The Toponym In The Inscriptions On Bronzes Of Shang Dynasty

This article is a compilation of the research and interpretation opinions on the toponym of inscriptions on Bronzes of Shang Dynasty.It is a summary of previous research work and hoped that through a complete summary of the place names in the inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty,the opinions of various investigations and interpretations will be collected to improve the research on the place names in the inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty.The thesis sorts out 53 place names in Shang Dynasty bronze inscriptions,and the full text is mainly consisting of the following parts.In the introduction part,the content mainly describes the history and current situation of the research on toponym in bronze inscriptions in the Shang Dynasty,analyzes the shortcomings of previous studies,expounds the significance of this article,and explains the origin and evolution of place names in the Shang Dynasty and the method of determining place names.It also briefly introduces the arrangement of this paper,and the methods commonly used in the past place names research are summarized.The first chapter is the variorum about the toponym in Shang Dynasty Bronze Inscriptions.This chapter shows the research achievements of Shang Dynasty Bronze inscriptions place names in the academic circles in recent decades.Each place name is accompanied by a picture,which sorts out all the inscriptions on the place names contained in it.The interpretation part of the inscription adopts strict official statutes and absorbs the latest research and interpretation results of the academic circle.A part of the author’s note is attached to the collection of variorums.The viewpoints cited by the collection of commentaries select the reasonable and follow them.Chapter two contains two parts: one is the inscriptions which are used as both place names and clan emblem in the inscriptions of Shang Dynasty;the other is the inscriptions which are derived from place names but only used as clan emblem in the inscriptions of Shang Dynasty.The style is the same as that in the first chapter.However,due to the particularity of clan emblem,some clan emblems are too many to list them all,so all the information of the word is only indicated in the footnotes,and the representative is extracted in the text.The third chapter is the variorum of the names of the states in the inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty.This chapter is the interpretation of the views on the investigation of the names of the States clearly appeared in the inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty.For example,the Yi Fang,which is of great significance to the textual Research of the places,is included in this chapter.The chapter four is the conclusion,which summarizes the work we done in this article and its shortages,and puts forward some points for attention in the textual research of place names.The last part is some tabulation about this paper.
