| English summary writing,as a writing mode combining reading and writing,not only reflects students’ writing level but also investigates students’ ability of reading comprehension and generalization.As a new question form of College Entrance Examination,it appears in the scope of senior high school English teaching for the first time.English summary writing teaching is a high-level writing teaching activity based on students’ autonomous learning ability.Therefore,it is necessary to find an effective summary writing teaching strategy.Schema Theory is often applied to English teaching research and has achieved plentiful achievements.However,few researches are focused on the application of Schema Theory on English summary writing teaching of senior high school.Schema Theory is instructive to the teaching of reading and writing,and its content framework(content schema,language schema and form schema)is in line with the focus of summary writing.This thesis applies Schema Theory to the teaching practice of English summary writing,focusing on three questions:(1)What’s the current situation of English summary teaching in senior high school?(2)How is the Schema Theory applied to summary writing teaching in the high school class?(3)What’s the effect of summary writing teaching model guided by the Schema Theory on students’summary writing ability?In this study,100 students from two classes of senior two in a high school in Cangzhou City,Hebei Province are selected as subjects to carry out a control experiment.In the three-month teaching practice,Schema Theory is applied to the summary writing teaching.The experimental process mainly includes three stages:construction and activation of content schema;construction and activation of language schema;construction and activation of form schema.The relevant data are collected through the questionnaires,pretest and posttest.In the research,the data are analyzed to draw the following conclusions.At present,high school students have many problems in summary writing,and hold a negative attitude towards the traditional teaching mode.After applying Schema Theory to the teaching of summary writing,the students’performance of summary writing has been improved because they have mastered some skills of summary writing,and their comprehensive ability of using English has also been improved. |
