In terms of cultural awareness,the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards(edition in 2011)points out that students should be aware of similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign cultures as well as improve their abilities in intercultural communication.Professor Wang Qiang also pointed out that teachers should deepen the culture behind the text and create a classroom where culture and thinking are integrated in the 2016 foreign language teaching reform forum.In fact,the culture teaching in China despises the emotions,attitudes,personalities and personal abilities in the curriculum standard,which is not consistent with the talent training goals in the curriculum standards perfectly.English cultural teaching is still a focus of our foreign language teaching.Accordingly,based on the current situation of cultural teaching,this thesis tries to analyze the cultural materials in Go For It(The People’s Education Publishing Company),and puts forward the methods of cultural teaching,which will be applied to the English class in middle school.On the basis of reviewing Chinese and foreign cultural teaching as well as cultural teaching under the theory of constructivism,this thesis classifies the materials of junior middle school English cultural teaching and explores methods through literature research as well as classroom observation.This thesis will focus on the following questions: Which cultural materials are chosen in Go For It? How can teachers apply cultural teaching in the Go For It? Combining the concepts of the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards(edition in 2011),based on the knowledge of cultural and communicating level in the cross-cultural communication theory,this thesis will briefly analyze the cultural materials in Go For It,which includes the knowledge and cultural level reading,lexical cultural materials,as well as communicative cultural topics and picture cultural materials.Based on the four elements of constructivist learning theory,namely conversation,collaboration,context and meaning construction,the four methods of cultural teaching are established,including cultural conversation,cultural collaboration,cultural context and cultural meaning.Based on these elements,taking English classroom activities in junior high school as examples,this thesis will focus on teaching methods and communicative culture in teaching practice.Through text analysis,it is found that Go For It involves a wide range of cultural materials.Teachers can redevelop and utilize the teaching materials to realize culture teaching effectively.Through classroom practice and observation,it is found that students’ enthusiasm in learning and cross-cultural awareness have improved through cultural teaching under the guidance of constructivist learning theory.This thesis provides concrete cultural teaching practices,which tries not only to help teachers to improve their cultural literacy and the ability to re-develop teaching materials but also to promote the cultural awareness of teachers and students.It also improves the cultural teaching system of junior middle school.
