In the NMET(National Matriculation English Test),English reading scores account for a large proportion,so English educators constantly seek suitable teaching methods to improve students’ English reading scores.At present,the common problem in English reading teaching is that students are basically in mechanical reading practice,and their motivation to learn to read is insufficient,and their comprehension of articles is not profound,which may affect the improvement of their reading ability.The problem-based learning method or problem-based teaching method is suitable almost reading materials.It focuses on creating situations,asking questions,advocating independent thinking,discussing and solving problems in groups,and carrying out reflection,which helps students cultivate good reading thinking.At the same time,due to the rapid popularization of the new media environment,the use of multimedia equipment is indispensable in daily teaching and has become an important external auxiliary condition for modern educational research.The specific objective of this study is the impacts of problem-based learning in senior high school English reading teaching under the new media environment on students’ English reading learning,changes of students learning attitude,choice of reading strategies and improvement of English reading scores at this stage.The study takes a certain amount of time and procedures to test,so this study selected the action research methodology,combined with the research methods of questionnaire,test and interview.The thesis conducted two cycles of teaching experimental action research on 82 students and 8English teachers in a senior high school in Liaoning province.After two cycles of action research,the findings indicate that problem-based learning used in senior high school English reading teaching under the new media environment can assist students to change their learning attitude,select appropriate reading strategies,promote their reading ability,and improve most students’ English reading scores to a certain extent.This teaching method is serviceable for senior high school English teachers to carry out effective English reading teaching.The results of this study will provide some guidance for improving English reading teaching.
