| As the policy of "universal two-child policy" is released,some urban families choose to have a second child,which makes some of the only children become the children of the family.At this time,the age difference between them and their younger brothers and sisters is relatively large,so they are called older first-born children.As a new phenomenon in the accelerated period of social transformation,the sibling relationship with a large age difference has distinct characteristics of The Times.The addition of new members makes the family structure change,and the daily relations between the compatriots inevitably produce contradictions.This study examines how first-born children respond to sibling conflict when faced with younger siblings.Studies have confirmed that sibling conflict is affected by many factors,the most important of which is the parent-child relationship.Therefore,this study explores how older first-born children cope with sibling conflict and how parent-child attachment affects their coping styles of sibling conflict.Based on the research of Shantz,Xu Changkuan and Lu Yuewen,the preliminary study compiled situational stories of sibling conflict,and set up four types of resource possession,rule maintenance,disagreement and emotional problems.A total of 50 first-born children in grade 5 and 6 of a primary school in Shijiazhuang City were selected as the research subjects.Through an open-ended questionnaire,the coping styles of first-born children in sibling conflict situations were collected.The results showed that the coping styles of older first-born children in sibling conflict included self-inhibition,self-assertion and impulsive behavior.In the first study,the first-born children in the fifth and sixth grades of a primary school in Shijiazhuang City were selected as the research objects,and the situational story method was used to explore the characteristics of sibling conflict coping styles of first-born children compared with non-first-born children.The results showed that :(1)On the whole,older first-born children showed more self-inhibitory coping styles in sibling conflict;The non-older first-borns showed more assertive coping styles.(2)Differences in different sibling conflict situations: in the type of resource possession sibling conflict,older first-born children showed more impulsive behavior and self-inhibitory coping style,while non-older first-born children showed more self-assertion coping style.In the maintenance rule sibling conflict type,the older first-born children showed more self-inhibition coping style,while the non-older first-born children showed more self-assertion coping style.In the sibling conflict type,the older first-born children showed more impulsive behavior and self-inhibitory behavior when their views differed,but the non-older first-born children showed more self-assertive coping style.There is no difference between older first-born children and non-older first-born children in the three coping styles of sibling conflict in emotional problems.On the basis of the first study,we used the Parent-Child Attachment Questionnaire(IPPA)to measure the level of parent-child attachment in first-born children,and analyzed the effect of parent-child attachment on sibling conflict coping style of first-born children.The results showed that :(1)the paternity attachment level of older first-born children was significantly lower than that of non-older first-born children.There is no significant difference in parent-child trust dimension.Older first-born children have less parent-child communication and higher degree of parent-child alienation.The first-born children of non-older age had more parent-child communication and less parent-child alienation.(2)Parent-child attachment has a significant impact on sibling conflict coping styles of older first-born children.Older first-born children with high level of parent-child trust and communication showed more self-assertion coping style when facing sibling conflict.Older first-born children with low level of parent-child trust and communication showed more self-inhibition coping styles when facing sibling conflict.The older first-born children with high level of parent-child alienation showed more self-inhibition and impulsive behavior coping style,while the older first-born children with low level of parent-child alienation showed more self-assertion coping style.From what has been discussed above,it can be concluded that:(1)In sibling conflict situations,older first-born children showed more self-assertion coping styles than non-older first-born children,and older first-born children showed more self-inhibition coping styles.(2)The paternity attachment level of older first-born children was significantly lower than that of non-older first-born children.Compared with non-older first-born children,older first-born children have less parent-child communication and higher degree of parent-child alienation.(3)The overall level of parent-child attachment in older first-born children is significantly lower than that in non-older first-born children,and parent-child attachment has an important influence on sibling conflict coping styles of older first-born children. |
