A Study Of "VO1+O2" In Contemporary Chinese | | Posted on:2022-08-15 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:L J Xu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2505306476996919 | Subject:Linguistics and Applied Linguistics | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | An object of study in this paper is the verb-object compound followed by an object(VO1+O2)in Contemporary Chinese.On the basis of the previous research results,applying three-dimensional grammar,cognitive linguistics and prosodic syntax to interpret“VO1+O2”.Combined with previous studies,we regard“VO1”as verb-object compound.“O2”can be made up of noun,predicate and adjective components.From the Semantic Types of“O2”,this paper mainly discusses the characteristics and relationships of each element under different semantic types.It also explores the pragmatic causes of“VO1+O2”.The first chapter is the introduction,mainly expounds the reason and significance of this paper,introduces the research status and related research of“VO1+O2”,and puts forward the theoretical basis,research methods and corpus source of this paper.The second chapter mainly studies the semantic cohesion of“VO1”,and the influence of the degree of semantic adhesion on the ability of“O2”is analyzed.Finally,the main syntactic functions of“VO1+O2”are discussed.The third chapter mainly takes the semantic types of“O2”as the starting point,"O2"is classified into six types:locative object,target object,quantity object,objective object,causal object and result object.The relationship between the elements under different semantic types is discussed.The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the pragmatic causes of“VO1+O2”.Previous studies have found that“VO1+O2”is characterized by concineness,emphasis and lively rhythm,but there is no in-depth analysis of its pragmatic causes.And we find that the main causes of“VO1+O2”pragmatic function are:the prominence of focus information,the prosodic restriction of written language,metaphor and metonymy,the economic principle of language,the characteristics of Chinese parataxis,etc.The fifth chapter mainly summarizes and generalizes the whole thesis,and finally points out the deficiency of this thesis. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | “VO1+O2”, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, prosodic syntax, cognitive linguistics | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
