A Report On E-C Translation Of Technical Texts

With the rapid development of cloud technology in the information era,cloud technology is widely adopted in various industries with broad prospects.A large number of scientific English texts have emerged,and the significance of EST(English for science and technology)translation has become increasingly prominent.Based on the linguistic features of EST,the selection of suitable translation strategies will help translators to make appropriate language choices,promote more effective translation practice,and make the EST translation principles more systematic and scientific.Chapter 1 to 5 of Cloud Migration Method-From On-premise to the Cloud were selected as the source text for this translation practice.According to the Theory of Linguistic Adaptation proposed by Verschueren,this thesis analyzed the communicative context and the linguistic context from the perspective of contextual correlates of adaptability and structural objects of adaptability.The translation strategies and methods were summarized after the analysis of issues on how to process the structural and logical relations in the text,how to translate the specialized vocabulary,specific expressions and difficult sentences,as well as how to adapt to the cognitive level of the author and readers to convey the information.The conclusions are as follows: 1.Context is not static and isolated,so the cohesion,constraints,and logical-semantic relationships in the text should be found to construct the translation with the coherence and relevance of meaning;2.Contextual factors restrict the linguistic structure,which in turn has an impact on contextual changes,so the vocabulary,word order,information structure and expression methods should be flexibly selected according to the context to improve the translation;3.Because of the information gap between the author and readers,the translator should take the relevant knowledge of cloud technology and the cognitive level of readers into consideration,and clarify the original ideas and development context to accurately convey scientific and technological knowledge as well as implied information.It is the author’s further hope that this study can provide some reference for the research and practice of EST translation.
