| This thesis aims to investigate the weight of influencing factors on interpreting motivation on the daily practice of two cohorts of MTI students at China Foreign Affairs University(CFAU).The influencing factors of motivation, adapted from the framework of components of foreign language learning motivation proposed by Dornyei(1994a),are studied from three levels: the language level, the learner level and the learning situation level.A questionnaire is designed to collect students’ perceptions of the significance of these levels of influencing components and to try to explore which level of components exerts the greatest influence, and the results are studied to propose some strategies to maintain and cultivate MTI students’ motivation on daily interpreting practicing. This study finds that first, most students’ motivation on daily practicing has been fluctuating, going up and down after joining the MTI program.Second,as for the sequencing of the three levels, the learning situation ranks the first, the learner level goes the second and the language level as the third.Third, after exploring the most influential level, the learning situation level, through three groups of components,it has been found that these groups of components are ranked as group-specific components,teacher-specific components and course-specific components.Fourth,Class of 2021 and 2022 share the same rankings on most components and levels, but there exists a big difference in the component interpreting learning anxiety.Suggestions are provided to maintain and cultivate students’ motivation from the learning situation level and to alleviate students’ learning anxiety. |
