| Karatani Kojin became a Japanese literary critic around the 1970 s,and his criticism works involve different professional fields such as literature, philosophy, economics and so on.However, his works with different themes in different periods still reflect a certain consistent theoretical logic. This article extracts a concept from Karatani Kojin’s text to grasp the core feature of his criticism as “transcendental”,and generally refers to his criticism as “transcendental critique”.The concept of “transzendental” comes from Kant, but Karatani Kojin has reinterpreted it.On the one hand,Karatani Kojin retains the argument that the object is actively constituted by the subject, but transformed it into a post-structuralist concept “genealogy” in some measure;on the other hand,Karatani Kojin is especially emphatic about the motivation that exists at the starting point of“transcendental” theory, which is motivated by otherness or differences, and thus essentially gives ethical and practical significance to the concept “transcendental”.Karatani Kojin’s criticism or critique should be seen as a unity of the above two levels,Just like the inherent unity between Kant’s theoretical reason and practical reason.before the 1990 s,Karatani Kojin emphasized the“genealogy” or theoretical side, but later he began to emphasize the practical side. The rationale for this position-change can be found in his specific theories in the 1970 s and 1980 s,such as the theory of value forms, the theory of “landscape” discovery, and the theory of formalism, etc.Karatani Kojin emphasized that the attitude of “transcendental” is stimulated by “pronounced parallax”,which means otherness or difference. However, this does not mean an absolute separation between the subject and the Other, but means only under the premise of maintaining“parallax” can the pursuit of a transcendental structure be possible. Therefore,Karatani Kojin provided a possible approach to the Totality of the current world by his transcendental critique. |
