Diverse Expressions Of Biological Media

In the middle of the 20th century,the double helix structure of DNA molecules proposed by Crick clarified the essence of life phenomena,and molecular biology was born.^[1]As an emerging discipline,bioengineering has developed rapidly on this basis.Art creation has gradually been applied to bioengineering technology,which involves genetic modification in genetic engineering and cell tissue culture.Under such a technical background,the perspectives of people and nature,people and other species,and people and they have changed.^[2]The artist gradually began to use the material with life characteristics to create.Biological art is to use living materials as creative media,extend biological practice to social and ethical levels,and express people’s discussion on the natural environment and the nature of life.When artists use living creatures as their creative medium,they interact and shape each other,which are the communication and dialogue between life and life,and the process of exploring life.Compared with other media,biological media can better reflect the time and life characteristics of the work,explore the essence of matter,and trigger our thinking about life and essence.The forms of artistic language in contemporary art are diverse.As the research fields of biological sciences and its branch disciplines have gradually expanded,many artists have moved from studios to laboratories,choosing biological tissues,cells,living bodies,and life states as media materials for new media art.For example,in 2007,Li Shan’s"Pumpkin Project",Edward Do Katz’s"Green Fluorescent Protein Rabbit",Chen You tong’s"Restore White"and other works,the theme of biological life has attracted the attention of many artists,and biological media has become the protagonist of artistic creation.The growth dynamics and life characteristics of biological media add vitality to art and provide a broader space for the exploration of artistic forms.The main purpose of the thesis is to conduct in-depth research and analysis on the multiple presentations of biological media in the new media art,and to reveal the diverse expressions of related life topics,symbiotic relationships and humanistic consciousness innovations caused by biological media.Taking the origin,development and characteristics of biological media in contemporary art as the research background,the main content is the discussion,conceptual and decorative expression of life ontology produced by artists using biological media in artistic creation.The uniqueness and diversification of the biological media presented by the artist using different technical methods are analyzed.Therefore,the expression of the artist’s work concept needs to be combined with the biological media’s own characteristics to produce a corresponding life topic discussion and personal attitude expression.Finally,in the later period of the thesis,combined with personal creative practice,the concept of life and related topics are expressed through biological media and the art form of future biological media is prospected.
