The Translation Report On The Biological Paper“GLK Transcription Factors Coordinate Expression Of The Photosynthetic Apparatus In Arabidopsis”

With frequent exchanges in culture,science and technology,there are a number of translation works at home and abroad.Also,multitudes of foreign books have been introduced to China,therefore,a flood of translators conduct translation and do the translation research.The author knows that there are many translations of literature works as well as the research on literature translation.However,the study on non-literary translation does not draw extensive attraction.The science and technology theses are also abundant resources for education,but the translation of this kind of papers fails to focus on the effect exerted on receptors.Thus,through the study on the translation report on a biology article“GLK Transcription Factors Coordinate Expression of the Photosynthetic Apparatus in Arabidopsis”,this report puts forward related translation strategies and techniques aming at the sentence characteristics and the style peculiar to this biological thesis at lexical,sentence and voice level.Jin Di's “principle of equivalence effect” is adopted as a theoretical guidance in this translation practice because the theory contends that “Although the same information,the receptors are different in two different languages,it will produce the same reading effect,” which will enable the maximization of information transmission to achieve the communication of popular scientific knowledge.Firstly,it introduces the translation task and translation process.Then,it analyzes the translation strategies such as literal translation,addition,adjustment and conversion under Jin Di's principle of equivalence effect,which is based on the characteristics of this biological paper,including complex sentences,the passive voice,the use of nominalization and declarative sentences.Finally,this report provides some findings,reflections and limitations,in hope of improving the translation quality of popular science text.This report points out that the translation of EST(English for Science and Technology)should be guided with anappropriate theory,and translators should be faithful,so that they can achieve the equivalence effect and the maximum spreading of knowledge.This report believes that translators need to ensure the transmission effect of original information,and also have a professional quality and the reserves of corresponding knowledge,so as to do a good job in translation.Hopefully,this translation report can enlighten other translators and attract more translators to biological texts.
