A Report On The E-C Translation Of To Constitute A Nation (Chapter 1)

The source text in the report is a chapter extracted from To Constitute a Nation,a book from Australian Studies Center in my college.The book was written by an Australian woman writer Helen Irving.Its writing background is a period of turbulence and hope after the promulgation of the Australian Federal Constitution in 1901.The source text mainly states the events related to the inaugural ceremony of the Commonwealth of Australia.This report mainly consists of introduction to the translation task,description of the translation process,case analysis and conclusion.Case analysis is the core content of the translation practice report,which selects key and difficult words and sentences as cases for analysis.By analyzing the characteristics of the text,guided by the functional equivalence theory,the translator discusses and analyzes the words,long and difficult sentences in the process of translation by using the translation strategies of the choice of words meanings,amplification,omission,combination,adjusting sentence order,so as to ensure the accurate transmission of the style and meaning of the source text.Through literal translation and liberal translation,this report analyzes and studies metaphors in the text.Since To Constitute a Nation was published in 1997,there is no Chinese version.I hope that my translation report can provide reference for the future study on Australia.
