Food plays an indispensable role in the survival of human beings,so it has become one of the topics that people care most about.Food Industry,a collection of 31 papers related to food, which can be used as a reference for those who are engaged in food industry.Chapters 27 and 28 of Section 5 of the book are chosen as the translation project, and the topic of these two chapters is innovation in food industry. The translation of English for Science and Technology, which is shortened as EST translation, belongs to the category of non-literary translation. In order to better complete the translation project, the translator made some preparations before the translation. The translator analyzed the characteristics of the source text from lexical level, syntactic level and rhetoric level and the differences in thinking patterns between Chinese and English. In addition, the translator searched and sorted up some parallel texts as references. In the translation project, prototype theory is chosen by the translator as the guiding theory. The translator adopted translation skills such as transference, repetition, conversion, addition, linear translation, free translation, etc.to make the translated text has more language characteristics of the target language,so as to make the translated text closer to the prototype of the target language.Through the application of prototype theory in this translation project, more people can realize the possibility of applying prototype theory to EST translation studies.Due to the limited background information collected by the translator, there are inevitably some deficiencies in the translation. However, the translator thus realized the importance of collecting background knowledge of the source text for translation, and also realized the importance of a solid bilingual foundation for translation.
