A Report On C-E Translation Of The Food Industry Map For 2022 Winter Olympic Games(Excerpts)

In February 2022,the 24th Winter Olympic Games were successfully held in China,with the snow events hosted by Zhangjiakou,Hebei Province,which is not only a great event for China but also an honor for Hebei Province.The book The Food Industry Map for 2022 Winter Olympic Games,compiled by Hebei Agricultural University,introduces the development of major food industries in Hebei Province and the tourism resources near the Zhangjiakou area of the Winter Olympics in a Chinese-English format so that friends from all over the world can further understand Hebei while watching the games in the Winter Olympics.The author is responsible for completing the translation of chapters 2 to 7 of the first part of this book,totaling 17,384 Chinese characters,and it takes about two months to complete the translation,which has 10,881 English words.The source text,with its standardized and accurate wording and strong professionalism,conveys rich information and belongs to informative text according to the classification of Reiss’s text typology theory,and the purpose of an informative text is to convey information.According to Reiss,there are specific translation strategies for specific texts.For the translation of informative texts,it is necessary to focus on the accuracy of the content,to objectively convey the information facts,to carry out translation work with the target language readers as the center,and to make the translation conform to the expression habits of the target language.After analyzing the source text from three aspects:words,sentences,and articles,and combining the characteristics of the source text,the author believes that for this translation practice,the translation should achieve the effect of authentic and standardized terminology,strict and precise wording and clear logical hierarchy,to convey the information expressed in the source text to the readers or technicians in a more accurate and efficient English language.This report combines real translation cases and analyzes the guiding role of text typology theory for the translation of food industry information texts.For this project,the author sets requirements for the translation in three main aspects:the language should be concise and authentic,the information and facts should be conveyed objectively and accurately,and the logic and structure should be unambiguous.To achieve these purposes,the translation methods used by the author include omission,part-of-speech conversion,change of subject,explicitation,and split-recombination method.This translation project is of great practical significance to promote international communication in the field of the food industry.Through this translation practice,the author finds that Reiss’s text typology theory does have an important guiding role in the translation of informative texts.In addition,the translation of informative texts in the food industry requires the author to master more professional knowledge of the food industry while strengthening theoretical training and having a responsible attitude.The translation process and solutions written in this report can provide a reference for Chinese-English translation of food industry information texts and similar texts,and provide a reference for subsequent translation research in related fields.
