| Chinese society is now in a transitional stage in the overall process of social modernization,in which juvenile delinquency is an issue that cannot be ignored. However, the juvenile justice system in China is still not perfect. Therefore, the translation of the texts related to juvenile justice system can provide comparative thinking for the construction of the juvenile justice system in China. The source text of this report is Chapter 14 in Criminal Justice Today-An Introductory Text for the 21 st Century(Third Edition)written by Professor Frank Schmalleger. This chapter(Juvenile Delinquency)describes the major juvenile justice cases that have influenced the reform of the juvenile justice in the United States and it systematically expounds the connections and differences between the American juvenile and adult justice systems.Since Chinese and American laws belong to different legal systems, the translated text should not only achieve the accurate translation of terms, but also take into account the reading experience of the target readers who are more familiar with the Chinese legal system.Under the guidance of prototype theory, the translator analyzes and solves the difficulties encountered in the process of translation at lexical and syntactic levels.Based on the characteristics of the prototype, this report seeks the semantic and pragmatic prototypes to identify a more suitable translation,so as to provide a new research perspective for legal translation. |
