Abstract/Summary:
With the updating and development of the Internet and mobile devices,China has entered the era of "Internet + Education".Based on the studies at home and abroad,a questionnaire based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology(UTAUT)model and semi-structure interviews were adopted to explore the acceptance of English mobile learning(M-learning)among nearly 800 students from three junior middle schools in Jiangmen City,Guangdong Province. Two research questions were expected to be answered:(1)What is the acceptance of English M-learning among junior middle school students?(2)What are the factors affecting students‘ English M-learning in these schools? The results from both quantitative and qualitative data analysis showed that:(1)Among the three independent variables, the grade has the greatest impact on acceptance, followed by English test scores, while gender has showed no significant impact. The structural equation model indicated that among six dimensions in the questionnaire, namely Performance Expectancy(PE),Effort Expectancy(EE),Social Influence(SI),Facilitating Conditions(FC),Attitudes towards Behavior(AB),Behavioral Intention(BI)),SI,EE,and PE had the greatest influence on learners‘acceptance of M-learning.Then a simplified equation model of acceptance which was more suitable for junior high school students was established.(2)The influencing factors of English M-learning,which were summarized through questionnaires and interviews, were divided into two aspects: positive and negative.Positive factors included high-quality learning resources online, recommendations from teachers and classmates, portability of mobile devices, and so on.Negative factors included application features that required payment, low learning efficiency due to distraction of other functions of the mobile device, parents‘ restrictions, small screen size and bad mobile phone performance, too many ads embedded in the applications, and teachers’ unfamiliarity with software operation.Based on the results, this study proposed some suggestions from the perceptive of teachers and software developers to improve the efficiency of English mobile learning.
