Now in the field of basic education,the deepening of curriculum reform and the raising of the core quality of the subject indicate that primary school English,as one of the main courses in the stage of basic education,is facing new requirements and challenges.In order to improve the teaching quality and promote the development of students’ English learning ability,primary English teaching is in urgent need of solving the problems of lack of coherence and progressiveness between current class hours,so as to meet the requirements of English Curriculum Standards(2011 edition)which puts forward that “ teaching objectives must be designed as a whole,gradual and continuous language learning should be fully considered ”.In such a background,the unit integrity instruction meets the needs of current English curriculum and teaching development,it emphasizes the unification and integrity of English teaching and provides guidance for the development of English teaching.Taking the 32 fifth graders the researcher teaches as the research object,the researcher conducts an action research to answer the questions:(1)How to design and implement the unit integrity instruction in primary school English teaching?(2)What is the influence of the unit integrity instruction in primary school English teaching on students’ English learning attitude and English learning effect? The research adopts such tools as classroom observation,interview and testing to collect and analyze data.The whole language teaching theory and gestalt psychology are employed as theoretical framework of the research.According to the research framework,the researcher designs and implements an action plan for the unit integrity instruction in primary school English teaching and adapts the US TELL language teacher effectiveness observation scale.The researcher selects the observation items of students in TELL scale to form an observation scale for the unit integrity instruction in primary school English teaching.Through the observation of students’ classroom performance to find whether the action plan has reached the expected goal and the impact of the unit integrity instruction on the students.In combination with classroom observation,the researcher also uses interviews to collect data to find the impact of the unit integrity instruction on students’ attitude towards English learning.In order to explore the influence of the unit integrity instruction on students’ English learning effect,the researcher uses tests to measure students’ performance before and after the implementation of the unit integrity instruction.Through the analysis of relevant data,it can be concluded that after the implementation of the unit integrity instruction in primary school English teaching,students’ English learning attitude is more positive,and it has a significant effect on the improvement of students’ English learning effect.At the same time,the researcher has summarized the corresponding unit integrity instruction teaching steps and teaching strategies,which have certain reference value for improving the primary school English teaching under the background of the unit integrity instruction.The researcher sincerely hopes that this action research can provide some theoretical and methodological guidance for the majority of primary school English teachers.It may help enhance teachers’ awareness of English unit teaching,improve unit integrity instruction in primary school English teaching,and promote the quality of primary English teaching.
