This is a thesis based on the practice of Chapter 13 and 14 of The Evolution of Language, one of the most significant academic books of W.Tecumseh Fitch,a professor from University of St Andrews.Based on the communicative translation theories of Nida,Newmark,Hervey and Higgins, this paper analyzes the relative clauses from four aspects: forms, significations, rhetorical functions and adverbial functions, based on which the author discusses the translation methods of relative clauses.During the translation, the author strives to convey the information of the source text as much as possible, and makes translation more acceptable and readable. The author hopes to have a more in-depth and systematic understanding of relative clauses through this practice, and also to provide some suggestions and inspirations for the translation of relative clauses in the future.
