Reading has always played an important role in human development,especially in the field of teaching;Cultivating students’ reading ability has always been the key task in each stage.With the development of the new curriculum reform,foreign language teaching has entered the “era of core literacy”.To promote the development of students’ core literacy in English reading teaching,the concept of “reading literacy” was put forward,which conforms to and extends the reform trend,compared to the word “reading ability”.This study attempts to apply the Reading Circle Model to high school English reading teaching and conduct three rounds of action research to explore the teaching practice path of improving high school students’ English reading literacy.Based on Activity Theory,this study forms a theoretical framework to guide the development of action research,and discusses the effectiveness and feasibility of reading circle model for cultivating high school students’ English reading literacy.Through questionnaires and interviews with students and teachers,the development situation of students’ reading literacy was found out.So the action research programs were formulated in line with the learning situation.Based on this,the study carried out and implemented three rounds of action research in a county high school affiliated to Weifang City,Shandong Province.After the action study,the pre and post-test results,data of test paper and questionnaire were compared and analyzed,combined with the analysis of the interview results,to answer the following two research questions:(1)How does the Reading Circle Model affect the English reading ability of high school students?(2)How does the Reading Circle Model affect the English reading character of high school students?The results show that the Reading Circle Model is an effective way to cultivate students’ English reading literacy,which is manifested in the following aspects:(1)Reading Circle Model can promote students’ reading ability effectively.After a semester of teaching,students’ reading scores improved significantly;language knowledge develops most obviously;thinking ability,creative expression and cultural awareness were also improved.(2)Reading Circle Model can enrich students’ reading experience and promote the formation of good reading habits.After a semester of teaching,the amount and frequency of reading increased,the bad reading behavior was changed,the reading attitude became positive,and the students were able to plan and reflect on their reading.In summary,this study confirms that the Reading Circle Model is an effective teaching model that can promote the improvement of high school students’ English reading literacy,and has reference significance for the reform of high school English reading teaching. |
