| In contemporary sociolinguistics, the issues of language policy and language situation are a matter of great concern. The thesis integrates the basic theories and research results of linguistics, sociology, political science, history, and culture, using literature collection, statistics, comparative analysis, and historical analysis, and presents a detailed review of previous researchers’ work through Chinese,English,Russian and Belarusian sources, introducing definitions and comparative analysis of language policies in both countries.Secondly,we introduced the population and ethnic composition of Belarus and China, summarized and compared the language situation from the aspects of official languages, minority languages, and other public fields of language use. Then discussed the evolution and current situation of contemporary Belarus’ and China’s language policies,as well as the key reasons for its formation. In conclusion,we provide a comparative analysis of the instability and stability of Belarusian and Chinese language policies. So far,no academic works on the comparison of language policies between China and Belarus have been published, and the research on language policies between Belarus and China is still insufficient. Therefore, the topic selection has certain academic value and practical significance. The main findings of the study: Belarus and China have a complex multi-ethnic and multilingual language situation. The contemporary language situation in China is balanced and harmonious, while the bilingual situation in Belarus produces a linguistic imbalance;a comparison of the language policies of Belarus and China shows that the development of language policies in both countries is the result of many factors such as historical development of languages, geopolitics, education, etc.A comparison of the language policies of Belarus and China shows that: the Chinese language policy is stable, the Belarusian language policy is unstable, and the official languages of the two countries are developing in completely different conditions.Under China’s language policy, the main ethnic group language has never faced the challenge of extinction, and the Belarusian language policy makes Belarusian face the crisis of survival. The findings of the study could help Chinese scholars better understand the current situation of Belarusian bilingual language policy,as well as help Belarusian scholars better understand Chinese language policy, enrich research on Belarusian language policy in Chinese literature, and improve relations between the two countries. |
