| English grammar serves as the glue to combine words into sentences and make sentences into texts.English grammar has also become a difficulty that all beginners need to overcome,so choosing an appropriate grammar book becomes a stepping stone on the road of English learning.During this translation practice,the writer selected the book named English Grammar Rules & Mistakes,which is divided into ten parts and uses abundant examples to explain the author’s idea.Grammar book has rigorous content and relatively simple language which is easy to understand.As the informative text,it is different from the normal grammar book.The author’s writing style is relaxed and the explanation is expressed in a dialogue and light way.Therefore,according to the characteristics of the selected books,the interpersonal function of systemic functional linguistics theory is selected to guide the translation process.The interpersonal function pays more attention to the social function of language,revealing the role and display relationship between the speaker and the receiver.Meanwhile,as the translation technology increasing,machine translation can deal with simple structure of the article and improve the translation speed.Therefore,under the guidance of interpersonal function theory,the writer makes a comparative analysis of the differences between machine translation and manual translation,and comes to the conclusion that it is difficult for machine translation to achieve translation equivalence when translating sentences with strong literariness,and the language processing is relatively rigid,and even some translations do not conform to the expression habits of the target language.Through the translation analysis,this thesis summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of machine translation and provides some suggestions for the improvement of machine translation in the future.This translation practice report is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of the translated text and the analysis of the significance of the translation practice.The second chapter is the summary of the translation process,which consists of three stages: pre translation,in translation and post translation.The third chapter is case analysis.At the beginning of this chapter,the writer introduces the development of machine translation and elaborates the theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics and interpersonal function.The writer makes a comparative analysis of the author’s version and the machine translation by using the mood system and modality system of interpersonal function theory,and finally summarizes the problems existing in the machine translation under the guidance of interpersonal function.The last chapter is the summary of the whole translation practice report,which details the problems encountered during practice and the ways to solve the problems,and summarizes the gains and shortcomings of this practice report. |
