| With the long-term development of cognitive science, the role of representation can not be ignored. It is not only a medium through which the brain can express information and content in the form of computation and symbols, but also participates in the process of acquiring and expressing knowledge. It can be said that representation appears in almost every field of cognitive science.Under the influence of Descartes and Kant, the concept of cognitive representation with linguistic symbolic representation and computational representation as the core came into being. After the influence of artificial intelligence, people have more diverse choices for the transmission and expression of mental information between brains, the development of the first generation of cognitive science has encountered a bottleneck, and the development of the second generation of cognitive science has come into being.of course, this development has also encountered a lot of criticism. In its own development, the second generation of cognitive science has reconsidered the status of representation and the significance of its existence.According to the different research background,it can be divided into embodied cognition, embedded cognition, extended cognition, enacted cognition and so on.Together, these constitute the 4e movement about mental activity in the second generation of cognitive science. In the above-mentioned solutions, inspired by the achievements of phenomenology and artificial intelligence, philosophers have made more new understandings of the relationship between the body, the brain and the world.and want to find solutions to difficult problems about the mind and development. In these discussions, the status and role of representation have been wavering. Some people think that representation can be replaced by other ways, while others think that representation has an unshakable status and has always played an important role in cognition. Therefore, this paper starts with the content and experience of the representation, and tells the recent situation of the representation together.Firstly,it starts with the origin and content of the representational view of cognitivism, and briefly combs the influence and background of Kant’s transcendental philosophy and Descartes’ mind-body dichotomy on representation.the contents and concepts of linguistic semiotic representation and computational representation are summarized.Secondly,it makes an in-depth discussion on the abandonment and censure of the representation by the new embodied cognition and generative cognition, that is,the radical embodied cognition thinks that the representation is incomplete, and some generationists also think that the mind does not need the carrier of representation.representation is faced with its own new dilemma. Finally,on the basis of the embodied cognition and generative cognition discussed earlier,we continue to explore the party who supports the representation, find the evidence that the representation has not been abandoned, and actively defend the representation. |
