The Influence Of College Students’ Reading Life On The Construction Of Their Spiritual Space

During the Republic of China period(1912-1949),Peking University cultivated a large number of outstanding talents,such as He Ziquan,Zhang Zhongxing,Mao Dun,Feng Youlan,Gao Junyu,Yu Pingbo,Zhu Ziqing and so on.The reason why Peking University students stood out during the period of the Republic of China and became outstanding talents in all walks of life is inseparable from their reading activities on the university campus.Through reading life,they shape their own spiritual space imperceptibly from the aspects of knowledge,thinking,emotion,value and aesthetics.The construction process of spiritual space is the process of self-improvement and development of Peking University students.Under the specific historical background,the reading life of Peking University students is rooted in the turbulent Republic of China and the free and loose Peking University.Influenced by internal and external factors,the reading motivation of Peking University students can be roughly divided into seeking knowledge and making progress;loving country and exploring the road to saving of the country;caused by interest and hobbies;dispelling boredom and enlivening life,etc.From the original collection books building to the increasingly large-scale library,the abundant collection of books in Peking University provides students with sufficient spiritual food.Whether it is the reading room in the daytime,the dormitory building with electric lights at night,or the teahouse outside Southwest Associated University,you can see the figure of students holding books and reading.Peking University students also set up different types of reading clubs,they promote reading behavior and enrich reading life by carrying out various activities.Reading plays an important role in shaping the spiritual space of Peking University students.In the process of reading,Peking University students can improve their cultural accomplishment,temper rational thinking,enrich emotional experience,cultivate moral quality and promote aesthetic accomplishment,thus they can construct an increasingly perfect spiritual space.History is the best textbook,and the experience of Peking University in the Republic of China period is of great significance to the reform and improvement of contemporary universities.At present,our government attaches great importance to the construction of national spiritual civilization and vigorously advocates nationwide reading.College students in the new era shoulder the historical mission of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,and their spiritual space should be paid more attention.By studying theshaping effect of Peking University students’ reading life on their spiritual space in the period of the Republic of China,this paper hopes that contemporary universities and students can gain experience from it and pay attention to shaping spiritual space in reading life.
