| Landscape photography is a photographic concept that has emerged in China since 2000.It takes natural, human and social landscapes as its objects, combines reality and art,and integrates knowledge from various fields, using images to record the real and the unreal, and to express the relationship between its real society and human beings.China’s rapid economic development and social change have been accompanied by reform and opening up.Social phenomena such as urbanisation have come with a vengeance. As a result, under the influence of this social environment, natural landscapes have gradually been relegated to the back burner, and the ever-changing man-made landscapes have surfaced as the visual centre of society. These man-made landscapes are not only a microcosm of the current Chinese society, economy and political culture, but they have also become the material for Chinese artists and photographers to create their art.Through these man-made landscapes, landscape planners and builders show their aesthetics and attitudes;through these man-made landscapes, the public show their consumerism and values;and through the medium of photography, photographers selectively photograph these man-made landscapes to show the photographer’s social views and the spiritual aspirations of contemporary people. This paper analyses the development trend of landscape photography in contemporary China, taking the exhibition "Towards a Social Landscape:International Photography Exhibition" in Lianzhou in 2011 as an example for further study. It also discusses the characteristics and problems of landscape photography in China,as well as the future development and trends of landscape photography in China, taking into account the author’s own photographic practice and extracting valuable information. The paper uses inductive analysis and comparative portrayal to analyes and research typical Chinese landscape photography works. The paper summaries the characteristics, development and trends of landscape photography in China today, discusses the causes and draws conclusions. |
