Abstract/Summary:
In recent years,Korean gangster films are among the best in terms of production and quality in Asia,while Hong Kong,once an important production base for gangster films,has gradually lost its voice.However,in the process of shaping,developing and maturing of Korean gangster films,Hong Kong gangster films are always in a very obvious position among the various influences they have received.As early as in the 1980 s and1990s,a group of Hong Kong gangster films led by "A Better Tomorrow" had caused a huge sensation in South Korea,and what followed was that under the continuous input of such Hong Kong style gangster films,south Korean gangster films absorbed,learned and drew lessons from various aspects.Between Hong Kong and Korean gangster films there is a type of isomorphism and this kind of isomorphism is presented by specific films and consistency of some aspects of the films.There are some similar aspects of the films in both location because of this isomorphism and this gives the opportunity for a comparative study on both of them.In this article,through combing the development of gangster films in both areas and putting them in the social context and history in order to explore how Hong Kong gangster films influenced Korean gangster films and how this kind of impact helped shape Korean gangster films.This paper starts with the popularity that A Better Tomorrow caused in South Korea and focuses on the comparative study of general type traits,audio-visual language,narrative mode,the core theme in gangster films from two different areas and it also have a exploration on the micro aspects like theme emotion and characters.Throughout this dynamic process,this paper trying to build a bond from the inside out between Hong Kong gangster films and Korean gangster films.Besides all of these,this paper also includes the study of the specific genre style that Korean gangster films have produced after imitating and learning from Hong Kong gangster films and on this basis,this paper comes to the conclusion that Korean gangster films have their experiences and mysteries to keep their place.Finally,through this kind of panoramic exploration of Korean gangster films,this paper puts forward some opinions on whether it can have an impact on the revival of Hong Kong gangster films.
