Desire is the essence of human beings, the core concern of psychoanalysis, and the eternal motif of literature.Exploring the nature of desire not only provides the possibility to understand and grasp the deep meaning of being a person, but also helps to explore new perspectives in literary criticism. As the core category of Lacan’s theory, desire and literary criticism have a natural affinity. If you want to see the the meaning of Lacan’s desire,it can only be obtained through the interaction of the three orders.Imaginary order, symbolic order, and real order are the structural matrix of Lacan’s theory, intertwined and intertwined with each other. In the imaginary order, the ego is the mask of the mirror, but when the legitimacy of its identity is about to be deprived, the language originating from the symbolic order also injects intersubjectivity into the subject when the desire arises. The structure of the subject of desire is thoroughly encountered Cracked. The lack of existence hidden behind the imagination and symbolic circles is the source of desire. The "things" of the real order are transformed into object a to induce the subject to capture desires, but it always obstructs the real realization of desires. The grasp of the subject’s desire provides a theoretical basis for the interpretation of literary characters.Relying on the interpretation of literary texts,Lacan built the bridge of desire theory and literary criticism.Among the 27 seminars set up by Lacan, the sixth and seventh seminars focused on the two literary texts of Hamlet and Antigone respectively.Starting from his theory of desire,Hamlet’s delay,Antigone’s arbitrariness and other important character image issues have been effectively explained. This provides new enlightenment and examples for the acceptance, interpretation and criticism of literary texts by Lacan’s theory of desire.Lacan’s theory of desire has opened up many new perspectives on the character analysis of domestic literary criticism. This article intends to use the two texts Farewell My Concubine and Lolita to try to interpret the character image from the two more generalized perspectives of individual identity and traumatic experience. The existing practice of criticism has greatly enhanced the relationship between desire theory and literary criticism, but the inconsistent pace in the application of theories indicates the limitations of the theory to a certain extent. In this way,Lacan’s theory of desire provides new inspiration and examples for the acceptance, interpretation and criticism of literary texts.Since Lacan aims to support the theory with texts, his interpretation is limited by theoretical explanations. Therefore, the most important thing at present is to recognize these limitations and further standardize this type of literary criticism within a feasible range,so that Lacan’s theory of desire can be better integrated into the analysis of literary criticism. In short,Lacan’s theory of desire provides a new horizon for deep understanding and understanding of people,as well as a new way for readers and critics to deeply grasp and analyze the image of literary characters.
