The practice report is based on the E-C translation practice of A Companion to African American History which was edited by Alton Hornsby,Jr.This book mainly tells about the daily life, spiritual culture, religious belief of African Americans, and their history of struggling and seeking freedom under the background of social injustice. As a historical work, with detailed and logical contents, plain and objective language, accurate and clear expressions, this book is an important material for studying African American history and has high academic value.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, this report combs the translation process of the original text and analyzes typical translation cases.During the process, the translator combines Skopos rule,Coherence rule and Fidelity rule with textual features, and puts forward some translation skills from lexical, syntactical and discourse level, such as supplement of annotation, additional translation, division, word order conversion, preposition and combination of historical and cultural loaded words, attributive clauses and passive sentences and the reproduction of original language style.Through case analysis, this report demonstrates the applicability and feasibility of Skopos theory in historical texts translations. The translator endeavors to present the source text objectively and accurately in the whole process of translation. This process not only helps translator accumulate translation experience, but also provides reference for the translation practice and research of the similar texts.
