| Vocabulary is the cornerstone of English.The first step in English learning is Vocabulary learning.Vocabulary teaching is an extremely critical part in English teaching.The way of vocabulary presentation plays a vital role in vocabulary teaching.An appropriate and reasonable way of vocabulary presentation can help learners learn vocabulary effectively.Based on the theoretical framework of Dual Code Theory,Cognitive Load Theory,and Generative Learning Theory,this study takes 120 students from three different classes at Xu Chuan Middle School in Zi Gong as the research objects.Using experimental methods,vocabulary teaching was carried out in three classes with three presentation methods: vocabulary presentation,static picture combined text presentation(hereinafter referred to as static pictures)and dynamic video combined text presentation(hereinafter referred to as dynamic video).Combined with immediate retention test and delayed retention test,the research questions are put forward as follows:(1)Of three vocabulary presentation,which one produces better retention of target words in spelling and meaning in immediate retention test?(2)Of three vocabulary presentation,which one produces better retention of target words in spelling and meaning in delayed retention test?The experiment is divided into two stages.First,the teacher teaches three classes with the three kinds of vocabulary presentation methods mentioned above.After the teaching,the teacher immediately carries out the immediate retention test.Second,delayed retention test is carried out after a week.After the two tests,the teacher immediately collected the test papers and input the original data into SPSS 25.0.The conclusions are as follows:(1)In the immediate retention test,there is no significant difference in learning spelling and meaning among the three ways.In terms of spelling average,the effect of vocabulary list presentation is the best.As far as the average score of lexical meaning is concerned,static pictures are the best.(2)In the delayed test,there is no significant difference among the three ways of presenting vocabulary.In terms of the average score of the spelling part of vocabulary,the static picture presentation method has the best learning effect.(3)In the delayed test,there are significant differences among the three ways of presentation.Moreover,static picture presentation is more helpful for junior high school students to learn vocabulary meaning,followed by dynamic video presentation. |
